2022-11-10: Obsidian try 2
Not everyone gets a second chance, but when it comes to rocks, you get as many as you need. I usually need a third or fourth chance... This particular batch ended up taking around 6 weeks :0 The first two tries didn't go so well but I am feeling pretty good about the end result.
You may recall my first attempt at tumbling some obsidian. I've had a lot of really exciting feedback about the pendants and multiple press releases so I decided to try it again but with a little more refined shapes. Enjoy!
And - I've been posting a lot of my individual projects on facebook so feel free to follow!
I started with the first step - cutting up several slabs. I did take one extra step this time though by grinding them in to a little better shapes to put a bail on. Sorry for the lack of a picture... and the repeat.
It's important to have a lot of extra stuff in the tumbler to get everything polishing. Here we are in the Lot-o vibratory tumbler with some ceramics.
After a full cycle, trembling with anticipation, I had some scratchy/scuffed obsidian! π
Cool shape but... NOPE π π
Back to the drawing board. The nice part about it is that you can just try it again and experiment. The Agate Whisperer loves to experiment π
The left is the latest batch, the right is the first batch. This is under some unflattering light and definitely not perfect but... wait for it...
Bazinga. This is under more normal light
Group shot!
Nice
Shiny. If you like any of these, let me know. I'm going to put some bails on them so people can enjoy and show their Agate Whisperer spirit!
